Au pairs work no more than 35 hours per week, focusing mainly on communication-based activities with children rather than formal teaching. This allows the experience to remain cultural and educational rather than purely work-oriented.

What makes this exchange especially effective for Chinese language learning is the level of support provided. Au pairs do not have to navigate China alone. The program covers airfare, visa costs, insurance, and includes Chinese language courses, helping au pairs build a strong foundation alongside real-world practice.

In addition, the program offers:

• Assistance in communication between au pairs and host families
• Group events for au pairs at least once every two months, creating a community and shared learning environment

Host families provide au pairs with an independent bedroom and three meals a day, ensuring privacy and comfort. Au pairs also receive at least 1,500 RMB in monthly pocket money, 1.5 days off per week, and three additional vacation days every three months. This balance of responsibility and free time allows au pairs to explore China, practice Chinese in social settings, and deepen their cultural understanding.

Combining language study with Internships Abroad

For those who want to take their experience a step further,  a local internship can be an excellent way to study Chinese abroad. Internships offer exposure to professional Chinese environments, allowing participants to learn industry-specific vocabulary while gaining international work experience.
